I Sometimes Miss the Old Me

My New Entry to This Week's Lasting Memories Challenge

Lasting Memories has a new challenge this week -- Black & White with a Splash of Color. And here's my entry to this challenge:

I very seldom make a layout with only myself as the subject.  In fact, I've only done two including this one!  I don't normally have "studio portrait" quality solos and when I do have a solo shot, it's usually leaning on the comical side of pose LOL!

With this layout I dug out a black & white wallet size photo of me in my university grad/yearbook get-up 2 decades ago.  I distressed it by simply filing on the edges with emery board. Instead of framing the photo, I just used one of my foiled Tim Holtz Fancy Flight butterfly to act as border.

I embossed a Prima Just Us paper with Sizzix Flower Ring embossing folder then buffed with some pink pearl paint.  I covered a plain chipboard with aluminum foil before cutting it then paint it black and buffed with the pink pearl paint. Here's a more detailed image:

Since the photo was literally taken 20 years ago, I made that my title.  I used black foam alpha stickers.  I had to ink the letters of the "years" black because they're originally pink.

I used similar bookplates and put journals on it as subtitle -- youthful romanticism and idealism.  Those words best capture what I was that time: a very ardent, fervent  and radical student activist, progressive thinker, active sorority and student council officer, and of course, in my youthful prime!

I cut a half-scallop on a cardstock from rouge de garance Nympheas collection as mount.

To have that splash of color, I punched a hole then put these tiny fabric flowers I made.  They're actually fabric ribbons which I cut individually so I could get more flowers, then joined them together with jewelry stick pins.  I needed the hole so I could bend the pins and make them look like a bouquet.  I then journalled "i sometimes miss the old me" on a DCWV notepad pattern paper and inked the edges.

Oh, and the background is a white fabric-ky paper with white rubberized polka dots.  I bought it (along with others in different colors) from our local bookstore under the gift wrapping section! I don't know what it's called but it's quite transparent/translucent.

I'm adding this page to my "A Happy Scrappy Life" chipboard album.  Thank you Lasting Memories for the opportunity to make this layout.  I'm having this as a present to myself LOL!

Thanks for dropping by and have a happy scrappy life!
