The Bond Between Mother and Child Lasts a Lifetime

I'm on a streak today it seems.  Right after I finished my entry to the Filipino Scrapbookers Challenge Blog sketch #3, I used another 12x12 calendar page and made my layout as inspired by Let's Get Sketchy's Challenge # 23:

From this page:

I transformed it into this layout:

I started on the built-in poem title and an old photo of my son when he was 3.  I really can't make a very serious layout with mushy and cheesy titles, just not my character.  I want it to tell a story, funky, self-depracatingly funny and simply making fun of ourselves.

Hence, instead of putting another smaller photo, I journalled on a circle tag, "thankfully those really hideous teeth won't" -- won't last a lifetime, that is. LOL!

Don't you love serendipity even in scrapbooking?  I was able to use the built-in title (when in normal circumstances I would have simply covered it all up) and tied it in with my son's photo with a funny (I hope :D) follow-up.

The papers are from DCWV and I just picked them at random as long as they don't have hearts or flowers on them (my son would hate it!).  I might have subconsciously picked the ones with a light blue shade to complement his shirt, but I don't know.  As I've said before, when it comes to colors don't ask me LOL!

I generally followed the sketch but I have to make alterations as to sizes and dimensions because I have to cover the entire poem.  I just distressed everything, inked the edges and just put them all together.  To break the monotony I hand-stitched the center mount with metallic DMC thread.  And not to leave the main title box bare, I glued a sinamay ribbon around and reverse the "arrow end " ribbon in the sketch. I added a DIY daisy made from ordinary coffee-stained sketch pad paper, embossed & highlighted with bronze acrylic paint.

I enjoyed doing this specially as the incessant rains finally ended (and hopefully stay that way and let the flood ebb!)

Hope you like it and if you're similarly expriencing the same Philippine weather, keep safe!
